the IVAO Academy is based on ICAO and aims to accomplish the same objectives within IVAO as laid down in the original ICAO memorandum
if no Division in a particular area exists, the generic Academy publications (based on ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices) are valid
like in real life, the Divisions may apply other Standards and Practices than those issued in the IVAO Academy
Divisions are to publish the rules and practices that are differing from those in the IVAO Academy so they can be read by Pilots and ATCs operating in their airspace
The list of ICAO Contracting States can be found here and the ICAO Memorandum here.
The aim of the IVAO Academy is to explain basic principles of Aviation and Air Traffic Management in such a way that they can be understood by a broad public. It is not meant to serve as a professional training course for Pilots or Air Traffic Controllers. The information shown has been selected on what is considered of basic relevance for flight and air traffic control simulation and reworked to achieve a level of simplicity so it can be understood by a wide variety of people.
Although the IVAO Academy does not provide as detailed and in-dept information as given in professional training manuals, it's content is thoroughly cross-checked with the original ICAO documentation to exclude mistakes and misconceptions as much as possible.
The IVAO ACADEMY includes several modules with chapters and sub-chapters. It will enable you to understand and learn what a virtual controller and/or a virtual pilot should know so that you can take part in it right from the beginning. Therefore, we highly recommend new members to start reading from the first section onwards.
You may work on only what you need to pass your exams or what you find interesting. You can work the information in the any order of your choice. Or you can use it as a reference.
It is strongly recommended that newcomers take some time to read at least the "The bare basics" section as you will find many answers to your (first) questions and you will be able to enjoy your first connections to IVAO Network.
You are also encouraged to look at the FLIGHT OPERATIONS website for your flying or at the ATC OPERATIONS website for you controlling.
Details on training levels can be found at www.ivao.aero/training/exam
The exam policy can be found at www.ivao.aero/training/exam/Expol.htm
Further information in the "Rules and Regulations" can be found here.
Any suggestions and remarks are welcome at the IVAO ACADEMY team.
